Explore Eccentric Gold Rush towns

Our campground is located just downstream of where the famous 1849 gold discovery occurred which spurred the California Gold Rush. Explore Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park to learn more about this historically important period in our world's history. Coloma is not the only important Gold Rush era settlement, many other famous wild west towns are within a short drive away and all each have their own unique character and history to reveal.

Walk from camp along a wide sidewalk or drive (state park parking fees apply) to check out the historic buildings, Sutter's Mill replica, museum/gift shop, or take a hike up to the James Marshall monument overlooking the Coloma-Lotus Valley. Several other hiking trails also traverse the park. 

10 miles away

Explore museums, shops, delicious restaurants, art galleries, and more on a stroll down historic Main Street Placerville. 

18 miles away

There are two separate districts to explore in Auburn. Both boast retail shops, restaurants, art galleries, and exciting history. 

40-50 miles

Explore these two nearby cities, each have their own distinct character. Unique shopping opportunities, dining, and interesting art galleries await you. Do not forget to visit Empire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley, you won't be disappointed. This region is also a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, the stunning Yuba River nearby is not to be missed. For extra history immersion, check out Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park. You could spend days in this region exploring all the historical and outdoor opportunities.

Another Gold Country must-visit. Both Sutter Creek and Jackson have fun shopping, delightful art galleries, antique shops, and restaurants. Complete your visit with a stop in Amador County wine country, the Shenandoah Valley. For history buffs, visit Kennedy Mine in Jackson.
